"In The Moonlight", an 18x18 Standard Mural by Wet Dog Tile!

Today we're going to be taking a look at one of our favorite designs, our "In The Moonlight" mural from the Pond Dog Collection! We just received photos of a completed project featuring a custom mural and border we created using this design as inspiration.

This is our standard 18"x18" In The Moonlight mural from the Pond Dog Collection. It's one of our most popular murals and one of our favorites to make!

We create this mural by using hand-glazed Large and Small Herons, Water Lilies, various natural stone, glass, and ceramic mosaics. However, there is something that sets this mural apart from the rest of our standard designs...

Since everything we create is laid out by hand there is always a touch of variation, so whenever we create the "In The Moonlight" mural we have to custom-cut the surrounding slate pieces for each mural individually. This results in a perfect fit and a truly one-of-a-kind design.

For this custom project our artists created a detailed scaled concept drawing showing the suggested layout prior to production. This project features a center mural with an integrated border to add a beautiful flow and movement to space. Once the concept drawing was approved we started on the actual layout!

Once the "Friends" and mosaics came out of the kiln and the mesh-backing was cut to size, the artists laid out the whole design. Then, once the layout was complete. but prior to gluing the mesh-backing, we send a dry-lay photo to the client for final approval which gave them an opportunity to make requests for alterations prior to completion. Although this sounds like a lot of back and forth, this process really keeps the client involved in the design process throughout and ensures they will love the final result!

And it turns out... they did! And we do too! This "In The Moonlight" design is a perfect focal piece for this contemporary shower. The dark, earthy tones of the mural and border match well with the surrounding ripple field tile.
